Alegerea și întronizarea celui de-al șaselea Patriarh al românilor / The election and enthronement of the sixth Patriarch of the Romanians

Preafericitul Părinte Daniel a fost ales Patriarh al Bisericii Ortodoxe Române de către Colegiul Electoral Bisericesc întrunit în Aula Palatului Patriarhiei Române în ziua de 12 septembrie 2007.

Bunul Dumnezeu, prin glasul Sfântului Sinod și prin votul exprimat de Măritul Colegiu Electoral Bisericesc, ne-a chemat să slujim Biserica Ortodoxă Română în calitatea de Întâistătător al ei. Această chemare vine de la Hristos Domnul, Arhiereul Cel veșnic și Capul Bisericii. […] ­Este, în primul rând, o onoare, iar în al doilea rând, o cruce foarte grea. […] Mulțumim tuturor celor care au încredere în noi și, în același timp, trebuie să mărturisim că Sinodul împreună cu Patriarhul au nevoie de rugăciunile întregii Biserici, pentru că numai Dumnezeu ne poate lumina să găsim împreună soluții potrivite în momente dificile, să găsim metode misionare adecvate timpului nostru. Rugăm pe Hristos Domnul să ne ajute să continuăm activitatea frumoasă și luminoasă a Preafericitului Părinte Patriarh Teoctist, să păstrăm, să prețuim și să cultivăm moștenirea lăsată de el, spre binele Bisericii noastre și slava Preasfintei Treimi.

Duminică, 30 septembrie 2007, după ­oficierea Sfintei Liturghii în Catedrala Patriarhală, în prezența membrilor ­Sfântului Sinod al Bisericii Ortodoxe Române, a Preșe­dintelui României, a reprezentanților înaltelor foruri și autorități de Stat, a delegațiilor Bisericilor Ortodoxe, ale celorlalte Biserici și organizații creștine mondiale, ale celorlalte Biserici și Culte din țară, de față fiind mulți clerici și credincioși din Arhiepiscopia Bucureștilor și din întreaga Biserică Ortodoxă Română, Preafericitului Părinte Daniel i-au fost înmânate, după rânduiala tradi­țională, însemnele slujirii patriarhale: Gramata Sinodală, mantia patriarhală, crucea și engolpioanele patriarhale, camilafca albă și culionul alb cu cruce, precum și cârja arhipăstorească și a fost așezat, potrivit ­chemării și vredniciei, în Tronul Patriarhal. După slujbă, momentul festiv a fost continuat în Aula ­Palatului Patriarhiei.

În conștiința apostolică a Bisericii și în învățătura Domnului nostru Iisus Hristos, slujirea de păstor de suflete este, în primul rând, responsabilitate sfântă pentru mântuirea credincioșilor și iubire jertfelnică pentru ei. […] Ascultarea și supunerea duhovnicească a credincioșilor față de păstorii lor spirituali sunt strâns legate de privegherea și responsabilitatea păstorilor pentru mântuirea celor încredințați lor spre a fi păstoriți, adică a fi hrăniți din cuvintele Sfintei Scripturi, din Sfintele Taine ale Bisericii și din lumina vieții Sfinților lui Dumnezeu. […] Păstorul cel bun este un om care pune mult suflet în tot ceea ce face pentru mântuirea sufletelor altora. Însă această inimă milostivă a păstorului de suflete se formează în primul rând prin permanentă rugăciune către Hristos, Păstorul cel Bun, și către toți sfinții Lui, mai ales către cei care au fost ei înșiși păstori de suflete, „mari dascăli ai lumii și ierarhi“.

Toată nădejdea ne-o punem mai întâi în milostivirea Tatălui Ceresc, în ajutorul lui Hristos, Care ne întărește, și în dumne­zeiescul har al Sfântului Duh.

of the sixth Patriarch of the Romanians

His Beatitude Daniel was elected Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church by the Church’s Electoral College convened in the Assembly Hall of the Palace of the Romanian Patriarchate, on 12 September 2007.

Our compassionate God, through the voice of the Holy Synod and through the vote expressed by the Church’s Great Electoral College, called us to serve the Romanian  Orthodox Church as its Primate. This calling comes from Christ the Lord, the Eternal Hierarch and the Head of the Church. […] This is, before everything, a great honour, but also a very heavy cross to bear. […] We thank all those who have trusted us. We need to confess that the Synod, together with the Patriarch have a great need for the prayers of the whole Church, for only God can give us the light to find the right solutions in difficult moments, to find the missionary means suitable for our times. We pray Christ our Lord to help us continue the marvellous and glowing activity of His Beatitude Patriarch Teoctist. To help us keep, cherish and cultivate the inheritance he bequeathed to us, for the benefit of our Church and to the glory of the Holy Trinity.

Sunday, 30 September 2007, after the celebration of the Holy Liturgy in the Patriarchal Cathedral, His Beatitude Daniel was handed, in accordance with the traditional rite, the insignia of Patriarchal ministry: the Gramata of the Holy Synod, the patriarchal mantle, the patriarchal cross and engolpions, the white kamilavka with a cross on it, as well as the archpastoral staff, and he was sat on the patriarchal throne according to his calling and worthiness. This was done in the presence of the members of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, of the President of Romania, of representatives of the ­highest State fora and authorities. Also present were delegations of the Orthodox Churches, of other Churches and international Christian organisations and of the other Churches and religions in Romania, as well as a large number of clergy and faithful from the Archdiocese of Bucharest and from the whole Romanian Orthodox Church. After the service the festivities were continued in the Assembly Hall of the Patriarchal Palace.

In the apostolic consciousness of the Church and in the teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ, the ministry of shepherd of souls is, above all, a sacred responsibility for the salvation of the faithful and a sacrificial love for them. […] The spiritual obedience and observance of the faithful towards their spiritual shepherds are inextricably connected with their shepherds’ watchfulness and accountability for the salvation of those entrusted to them for safeguarding. This means the nourishing of the faithful with the words of the Holy Scripture, with the Holy Mysteries of the Church and with the light radiating from the lives of God’s Saints. […] The good shepherd is a man who puts a lot of passion in all that he does for the salvation of the souls of others. But this compassionate heart of the shepherd takes form mostly through permanent prayer to Christ, the Good Shepherd, and to all His Saints, especially to those who were themselves shepherds of souls, „Ecumenical Great Teachers and Hierarchs“.

We put our whole hope in the mercy of our Heavenly Father, in the help of Christ who strengthens us and in the divine grace of the Holy Spirit.
