Ne punem nădejdea în rugăciunile, sfatul bun și ajutorul tuturor fraților ierarhi din Sfântul Sinod, împreună-slujitori și împreună-păstori cu noi în Biserica lui Hristos din poporul român. Totodată, cerem întregului cler, tuturor monahilor și monahiilor, tuturor credincioșilor și credincioaselor Bisericii Ortodoxe Române din țară și din afara granițelor României să ne ajute în slujirea noastră cu rugăciunile lor și cu fapta lor cea bună. Cea dintâi dorință și cea dintâi datorie a noastră, ca nou Patriarh al Bisericii Ortodoxe Române, constă în păstrarea, prețuirea și cultivarea moștenirii spirituale luminoase pe care ne-a lăsat-o fericitul întru pomenire Părintele nostru Patriarh Teoctist, pildă de înțelepciune și răbdare, de iubire frățească față de toți creștinii ortodocși, pildă de bunătate față de toți creștinii, față de toți oamenii credincioși și față de toți oamenii făcători de pace și de bine. În al doilea rând, datoria noastră constantă este promovarea comuniunii frățești, a coresponsabilității și a conlucrării cu toți ierarhii din Sfântul Sinod, pentru a păstra și apăra credința ortodoxă și unitatea Bisericii noastre, precum și de a găsi împreună cu Înaltpreasfințiile și Preasfințiile lor, împreună cu clerul și credincioșii mireni ortodocși, căi și mijloace corespunzătoare pentru adâncirea și îmbogățirea vieții spirituale și a lucrării misionare în parohiile, mănăstirile, școlile de teologie, instituțiile culturale și instituțiile social-caritative ale Bisericii noastre, pe baza experienței de până acum și potrivit noilor provocări care vin din partea societății contemporane, din ce în ce mai secularizate.

Brotherly communion and cooperation in the life of the Church and in its social mission

We put our hope in the prayers, advice and support of all brother hierarchs in the Holy Synod, co-ministers and co-shepherd of ours in Christ’s Church in the Romanian nation. At the same time, we ask all the clergy, the monastics and the faithful of the Orthodox Church both in Romania and beyond its borders to help us in our ministry through their prayers and good deeds. Our greatest desire and our first duty as new Patriarch of the Orthodox Church is to keep, cherish and cultivate the luminous spiritual inheritance bequeathed to us by His Beatitude Teoctist. To cultivate his lesson of wisdom and patience, of brotherly love towards all Orthodox Christians, his lesson of kindness towards all Christians, towards all the faithful and towards all those who work for peace and charity. On the other hand, our constant duty is to promote the brotherly love, co-responsibility and cooperation with all the hierarchs of the Holy Synod, in order to keep and defend the Orthodox faith and the unity of our Church. So that, together with their Eminences and Graces, together with the Orthodox clergy and the lay faithful, we may be able to find appropriate ways and means to deepen and enrich the spiritual life and the missionary work in our Church’s parishes, monasteries, theological schools, cultural institutions and social-charitable institutions. So that we may be able to achieve all that on the basis of our past experience and in accordance with the new challenges coming from an increasingly secularised contemporary society.
