Aducerea de cinstite moaște ale sfinților şi de odoare sfinte, ca şi prezenţa la hramurile catedralei din București a unor înalţi ierarhi, ca delegaţi ai Bisericilor Ortodoxe surori, a devenit, în timpul Patriarhatului Preafericitului Părinte Patriarh Daniel, o tradiţie de mult folos sufletesc pentru credincioşi.

2008 – moaștele Sfântului Apostol Pavel, Veria (Grecia);

2009 – moaștele Sfântului Ierarh Vasile cel Mare, Arhiepiscopul Cezareei Capadociei, din patrimoniul Sfântului Sinod al Greciei (Atena);

2010 – fragment din Cinstitul Lemn al Sfintei Cruci pe care a fost răstignit Mântuitorul Iisus Hristos, Mitropolia de Drama (Grecia);

2011 – Cinstitul cap al Sfântului Apostol Andrei, Mitropolia de Patras (Grecia);

2012 – moaștele Sfântului Ierarh Nectarie, vindecătorul de boli, Eghina (Grecia);

2013 – moaștele Sfinților și Drepților Părinți Ioachim și Ana (Cipru);

2014 – icoana Sfinţilor Împăraţi Constantin şi Elena, care conţine părticele din Cinstitul Lemn al Sfintei Cruci şi din moaştele Sfintei Elena, şi icoana istorică a Sfântului Constantin cel Mare, Mitropolia Corintului (Grecia);

2015 – moaştele Sfinţilor Trei Ierarhi: Vasile cel Mare, Grigorie Teologul şi Ioan Gură de Aur, Mănăstirea „Sfântul Pavel” din Sfântul Munte Athos (Grecia);

2016 – moaştele Sfântului Arhidiacon Ştefan, Mitropolia de Nea Ionia şi Filadelfia (Grecia).

O mare şi sfântă bucurie cuprinde în aceste momente inimile noastre, ale celor adunaţi de sfinţii lui Dumnezeu pe Colina Patriarhiei Române, la sărbătoarea Sfântului Cuvios Dimitrie cel Nou, Ocrotitorul Bucureştilor, pentru a întâmpina Cinstitul cap al Sfântului Apostol Andrei, Ocrotitorul României, adus de la mormântul său din Patras (…) pentru ca toţi pelerinii, veniţi să prăznuiască hramul Catedralei Patriarhale, să-l cinstească după cuviinţă, fiind Apostolul românilor.

De ce vine lume atât de multă, de ce vin pelerini atât de mulţi să cinstească moaştele sfinţilor, mai ales ale sfinţilor martiri şi ale sfinţilor cuvioşi? Pentru că în moaştele sfinţilor, ca şi în sufletul lor, se simte prezenţa harului lui Dumnezeu. Noi nu cinstim natura umană în sfinţi, ci pe Dumnezeu prezent prin harul şi lucrarea Sa în natura umană.

The presence of God’s grace is felt in the relics of saints

The regular presentations of holy relics of saints at the feast days of the Cathedral in Bucharest, as well as the presence at these celebrations of some leading Hierarchs, as delegates of sister Orthodox Churches, has become a tradition of great spiritual value for the faithful, during His Beatitude Daniel’s Patriarchate.

2008 – The relics of the Holy Apostle Paul, Veria (Greece);
2009 – The relics of Saint Basil the Great, Archbishop of Cæsarea in Cappadocia, from the patrimony of the Holy Synod of Greece (Athens);
2010 – A fragment from the precious wood of the Holy Cross, onto which our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ was crucified, the Metropolitanate of Drama (Greece);
2011 – The precious head of Saint Andrew the Apostle, Metropolitanate of Patras, (Greece);
2012 – The relics of the Holy Hierarch Nektarios the Wonderworker, Aegina (Greece);
2013 – The relics of the Holy and Righteous Ancestors Joachim and Anna (Cyprus);
2014 – The Icon of the Holy Emperors Constantine and Helena, containing fragments from the precious wood of the Holy Cross and from the relics of Saint Helena; also the historic icon of Saint Constantine the Great, Metropolitanate of Corinth (Greece);
2015 – The relics of the Three Holy Hierarchs: Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom, Saint Paul Monastery, the Holy Mount Athos (Greece);
2016 – The relics of Saint Archdeacon Stephen, Metropolitanate of New Ionia and Philadelphia (Greece).

A great and sacred joy is now enfolding our hearts, the hearts of those gathered here by God’s Saints on the Romanian Patriarchate’s Hill, at the Feast of Saint Demetrios the New, Protector of Bucharest. We are here to welcome the precious head of the Holy Apostle Andrew, the Protector of Romania, brought from his resting place in Patras (…) so that all the pilgrims who have come here to celebrate the feast day of the Patriarchal Cathedral may also venerate the Apostle of the Romanians.

Why are so many people present, why do so many pilgrims come to venerate the relics of saints, in particular the martyrs and the ascetic saints? Because we feel the presence of God’s grace in the relics of saints and in their souls. We do not honour the human nature in saints, but we honour God’s presence in them, through His grace and his work in human nature.
